Celebrating Saveur 2016 Blog Awards Finalists

Every year, leading food magazine Saveur selects the best food blogs from around the web, in categories ranging from “Best Drinks Blog” to “Eat the World Award.” The 2016 finalists were announced last week, and we were thrilled to find numerous WordPress sites among them. Here are five WordPress.com food blogs that made the cut — be sure to show your support and vote for your favorites!

Jayme Henderson, a trained sommelier based in Colorado, specializes in “garden-to-glass” cocktails, and has been blogging about her adventures in advanced mixology since 2012, sharing fresh takes on classics along with breathtaking photos of her creations. She’s nominated for — you guessed it! — the Best Drinks Blog award.

Afroculinaria

Learn more about Michael W. Twitty’s work and his blogging in this Discover Q&A from earlier this year.

A leading voice on Southern food cultures and the intersection of cooking, identity, and politics, Michael W. Twitty is nominated this year for the Food & Culture Award, given to the “best single piece of food writing and cultural commentary.” The piece in question, “Dear Sean, We Need to Talk,” is a heartfelt polemical essay on the appropriation of black food cultures in the Charleston, South Carolina food scene.

Harvest and Honey

Recipes are about more than just quantities and instructions — they’re stories about family, relationships, and memories. At Honey and Harvest, Lauren McDuff, who’s nominated for a Best New Voice award, has created a space that is “one part memoir and one part recipe bank” (and the stunning, vintage-styled photography doesn’t hurt, either).

Food Junk

Best Humor Blog finalist Food Junk has been around since 2010 — and went on semi-retirement back in 2014. But the site’s archive of tongue-in-cheek-earnest reviews of some of the weirder processed foods out there (hello, Clamato!), as well as more recent write-ups on concoctions like Spreadable Twix help maintain its loyal audience.

Currently at #48 (the amusingly named “Apricot Failures”), 100Cookies is an ongoing project where Columbus, Ohio-based blogger Jack Volpi regularly shares his latest batch of baked goods. His fun, unpretentious approach has landed him a spot as a finalist in the Best Baking & Sweets Blog category.
